Use this page to configure trace settings.
This is a server-centric feature; in other words, this feature is only available on the local server where iMonitor is running. If you need to access this feature on another server, you must switch to the iMonitor running on that server.
You must be the equivalent of Administrator of the server or a console operator on the server where you are trying to access DS Trace. For this reason, you must first enter your username and password so your credentials can be verified before you can access information on this page.
Submit
Submit lets you submit changes to trace options and trace line prefixes. If DS Trace is
off, click Submit to turn it on. If DS Trace is already on, click Submit to submit changes
to the current trace.
Trace On/Off
This button lets you turn Trace on or off. The button text will change based on
the current DS Trace state. If DS Trace is on, the button text will say Trace Off.
Clicking the button turns DS Trace off and vice versa. When DS Trace is off, clicking the
Trace On button is equivalent to clicking Submit.
DS Trace Options
DS Trace options apply to the events on the local DS Agent where the trace is
initiated. These options show errors, potential problems, and other information about NDS*
on your local server. Turning on DS Trace options can increase CPU utilization and might
reduce your system's performance; therefore, DS Trace should generally be used for
diagnostic purposes, not as a standard practice. These options are a more convenient
equivalent of the SET DSTRACE=+option command.
Options that are marked below as developer/support options are options that might write large quantities of information to trace. Generally, it is suggested that these options be enabled only when instructed by support.
A B C D E F I J L M N O P R S T W
Allocated Memory
Developer/support option. Helps you identify memory leaks and other memory issues. To get any output when this option is selected, you must use a special version of DS provided by Novell Technical Support and unload DS after the memory issue has occurred.
Audit, Audit NCP, and Audit Skulk
Select these options to monitor the external audit process for NDS.
Backlinker
Select this option to show information about the backlinker process.Buffers
Developer/support option. Select this option to show NDS requests (actual data in packet format) coming to your server.Change Cache
Select this option to show when NDS does change cache operations (adding, removing, and so on) and documents changes to the database for synchronization.
Client Buffers
Developer/Support option. Select this option if you want to display the outbound DS Client request packets in the Trace output.Collisions
Select this option to show which change is actually made when two items in the database collide.
Connection Trace
Select this option to show information about the servers your server is trying to connect to, and to see errors and timeouts that might be causing your server not to connect.DirXML
Select this option to show DirXML-specific areas that NDS might be working on.DirXML Drivers
Select this option to show DirXML driver-specific areas that NDS might be working on.Distributive References
Select this option to show information about how the Used By attribute is kept up-to-date.DNS
Select this option to show information about the NDS-integrated DNS server processes.DS Agent
Select this option to show the actual verb being requested, the connection, and the identity that is requesting it.Emulated Bindery
Select this option to show all bindery requests that occur on your server.Fragmented Requests
Developer/support option. Select this option to show information about the transport layer for NDS verbs.Inbound Sync
Select this option to show information about synchronization requests that are coming from other DS Agents that share a replica ring with the local DS Agent.Initialization
DS Trace can be turned on and options can be enabled even if NDS is not loaded or not open. If DS Trace is on, select this option to monitor the initialization and deinitialization of the DS Agent as it opens or closes, loads or unloads.Inspector
Developer/support option. Select this option to turn on functionality that minimally checks objects for their validity.Janitor
Select this option to show information about the janitor process.Limber
Select this option to show information about the limber process.Locking
Select this option to show information about the verbs that are writing to the database and the length of time they write to the database.Lost Entry
Select this option to show information on NDS synchronization and the referential integrity of the database.Misc Distributed Options
Select this option to turn on a minimal set of messages about what the NDS operations are currently doing.Misc Other
Select this option to show information that might be required in addition to other options and used by the Agent Configuration page.Move Object
Select this option to show information about the states an object goes through while it is being moved from one location to another.NCP Client
Developer/support option. Select this option to show the DS Client's requests to other servers at the NCP level.NCP Engine

Select this option to show the registration of tree names and partitions with SAP.Schema
Select this option to show information about the schema synchronization process.Schema Sync Detail
Select this option to show additional information about the schema synchronization process.Server Packets
Developer/support option. Select this option to show NDS NCP server level information.Storage Manager
Select this option to show information about requests against the NDS database, including the type of queries and which indexes are used.Streams

Trace Line Prefixes
Lets you choose which pieces of data are added to the beginning of any trace
line. All trace line prefixes are selected by default.
Option Tag
Shows the tag string that identifies the trace option that generated the event on each line output by trace.
Trace History
Shows a list of previous trace runs. Each previous trace log is identified by the
period of time during which the trace data was being gathered.
