SUMMARY

In a Microsoft Works for Windows mailing labels document, paragraph borders do not print and are not visible in Print Preview.

However, if your printer is a dot-matrix printer and you are printing one-column wide continuous-feed labels, you may be able to use the workaround described below.

NOTE: Works version 4.0 allows you to print paragraph borders on labels.

MORE INFORMATION

In Windows version 3.1, some dot-matrix printer drivers allow you to select a user-defined size, where the dimensions of the actual label can be entered as the paper size. If you have one of these drivers selected, the following method can be used:

Works for Windows Version 3.0

  1. From the File menu, choose Page Setup.
  2. In the Paper Source section choose Custom.
  3. Change the Width and Height settings to the dimensions of your labels. (i.e. if the labels are 1 x 3.5, change Height to 1 and Width to 3.5)
  4. From the File menu, choose Print Form Letters, select the database, and choose the Print button to print the labels.

Works for Windows Version 2.x

  1. From the File menu, choose Page Setup & Margins.
  2. Change the page length to the distance from the top of one label to the top of the next label.
  3. Change the page width to the width of the label and choose the OK button.
  4. From the File menu, choose Printer Setup. (If you are using version 2.0a you'll also need to choose the Setup button.)
  5. From the Paper Size list box, select User Defined Size. You may have to scroll through the options to see it. If this choice is not available, this method will not work with your current printer driver.
  6. In the User Defined Size dialog box, set the length and width to correspond to what was entered in Page Setup & Margins. The setting will be in hundredths of an inch, that is, 1.0 inches in Page Setup & Margins equals 100 here.
  7. Choose the OK button in the User Defined Size and Printer Setup dialog boxes.
  8. From the File menu, choose Print Form Letters, select the database, and choose the Print button to print the labels.
