RAPID PUBLISHING
RAPID PUBLISHING ARTICLES PROVIDE INFORMATION IN RESPONSE TO EMERGING OR UNIQUE TOPICS, AND MAY BE UPDATED AS NEW INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE. SYMPTOMSInstall Exchange 2003 on a new server in a mixed Exchange 5.5/Exchange 2003 site.
The Exchange 5.5 service account specified is an account in a trusted (2 way trust)
NT domain. The account logged in during the install is a Domain Admin and Exchange
Full Administrator from the Active Directory domain. The AD account and the NT
account have the same account name (and in this case, the same password). Setup fails during the "creating system attendant object" phase. The following
pop-up error is seen: setup failed while installing sub-component System Attendant service with error
code 0xC0070005 (please consult the installation logs for a detailed description).
You may cancel the installation or try the failed step again.
The following error appears in the ExchangeServerSetupProgress.log file on the C
drive:
[00:00:35] Creating system attendant object
[00:00:35] Entering
CAtomSystemAttendant::ScCreateServerLevelSystemAttendantObject
[00:00:39] szLookupServer = 'ADDomainController', m_strName =

CTrustee::ScLookupSid (f:\titanium\admin\src\libs\logic\security2.cxx:916)
Error code 0XC0070005 (5): Access is denied.
CAUSEThe AD account used to install Exchange (account used to log onto the new Exchange
2003 server) has the same account name as the Windows NT account selected as the
Exchange 5.5 admin account during the install.
Note In this install, the 5.5 service account is automatically selected for you
and is not editable during setup.
RESOLUTIONChoose a different account to log onto the new Exchange Server and run the install.
Ensure the account is a Domain Admin, Exchange full Administrator and a member of
the administrators group in the NT domain.
