  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 SP1
  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003, you use the SMS Administrator console to view Site Status under the System Status node. When you do this, the SMS Site Control Manager may log the following error message:
ERROR: The "Site Definition" item in the master site control file "C:\SMS\inboxes\sitectrl.box\sitectrl.ct0" does not contain a "Property List" item named "NAL Reserved", or that item is corrupt.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the encrypted network abstraction layer (NAL) password for the SMS service account is missing from the site control file.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you must reset the site system connection account. To change the SMS service account, you must perform a site reset. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Systems Management Server, and then click SMS Setup.
  2. Click Next two times.
  3. Click Modify or reset the current installation, and then click Next.
  4. Type the account and the password that you want to use for the SMS service account, and then click Next.
  5. Click Next three times, and then click Finish.
  6. Click Yes to continue and to reset the site.
