The hotfix that is discussed in this article is not available for the Chinese version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM or for the Japanese version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0.
- You customize the Task entity to increase the field length of the subject field.
Note The default field length of the subject field is 2000 characters. - You create a task activity that has data in the subject field.
- The data in the subject field has more than 2000 characters but fewer than the number that you set when you customized the Task entity.
- You go offline in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM laptop client for Microsoft Office Outlook.
In this scenario, you receive the following error message during the offline process:
The data you have entered for one or more fields is too long. The record will be saved in CRM with truncated data.
Also, when you view the task activity in Microsoft Dynamics CRM, the data in the subject field is truncated.
Note This problem also occurs when you customize the
Task entity to increase the field length of the body field.
RESOLUTION
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.
