SYMPTOMS

When you work in Microsoft Office Excel 2007, in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007, or in Microsoft Office Word 2007, you may experience one of the following symptoms:

When you try to open a Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, or Microsoft Word file, the file does not open. Additionally, you receive the following message: You are attempting to open a file type that has been blocked by your administrator.
When you try to save a file, the file is not saved. Additionally, you receive the following message: You are attempting to save a file type that has been blocked by your administrator.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if one of the following conditions is true:

Your administrator has restricted the file types that you can open or save in Excel 2007, in PowerPoint 2007, or in Word 2007. Your administrator can set a registry key to restrict this functionality.
You try to open a document that was created in a prerelease version of Microsoft Office Word 2003 or in an earlier prerelease version of Microsoft Word.

Note This does not apply to Excel or to PowerPoint.
You try to open a document that was saved in one of the following earlier Word formats. Word 2007 no longer supports documents that were saved in the following Word formats:
- Microsoft Word for Windows 1.x
- Microsoft Word for Windows 2.x
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh 4.x
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh 5.x
Note This does not apply to Excel or to PowerPoint.
