SYMPTOMS

The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Server service is running on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer. However, the DHCP scope settings periodically disappear.

CAUSE

This problem occurs in a scope when the following conditions are true:
  • The DHCP Management utility (Dhcpmgmt.msc) finds a reservation.
  • This reservation uses an invalid address that is the same as the start of the scope. For example, a scope that handles the 10.1.1.0 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 has a reservation in it for 10.1.1.0.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, remove the problem reservation from the scope.
