SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You use the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Inventory Tool for Microsoft Updates (ITMU) to determine a computer's update status. The computer in question is running Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Service Pack (SP1). In this scenario, the ITMU scanning process stops prematurely.
When this problem occurs, the SMS advertisement returns status message 10007. This status message, in turn, contains the following error message:
The program for advertisement "Advertisement ID" failed ("Advertisement ID" - "Microsoft Updates Tool").
The failure description was "11412".
Additionally, you may receive the following error message in the SmsWusHandler.log file on the SMS client computer:
ScanPackage serviceID being used for this search is {d5f5abcd-c811-423d-9545-a16e635e6cf7}
ERROR: UpdateSearcher::Search() failed.
ERROR: Search() failed with hRes=0x80240032
0x80240032 is the hresult value for the operation.
Returning 50 as the exit code.
Finally, the ScanWrapper.log
file on the SMS client computer may contain the following error message:
ERROR: Failed while processing the executable.

RESOLUTION
This problem has been fixed in Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2).
