The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
SYMPTOMSYou have installed a Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003 (SMS) site system role, such as a Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)-enabled distribution point or a management point. When you remove and then reinstall Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), the SMS 2003 site system role does not work correctly.CAUSEThis problem occurs because the SMS site system roles depend on the IIS service. When you remove and then reinstall IIS, some of the IIS registry settings may change. In this case, the SMS roles may not work correctly. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, remove the affected site system roles, remove and reinstall IIS, and then reinstall the site system roles. To do this, follow these steps: - Log on to a computer that has the SMS Administrator Console installed by using an account that has administrative credentials.
- Click Start, point to All Programs, click Systems Management Server 2003, and then click SMS Administrator Console.
- In the SMS Administrator Console, expand Site Database (SiteCode-SiteName), expand Site Hierarchy, expand SiteCode-SiteName, expand Site Settings, and then click Site Systems.
- Right-click the computer where you reinstalled IIS, and then click Properties.
- In the Site System Properties dialog box, click the tab that corresponds to the SMS role that you want to remove, click to clear the corresponding check box, and then click OK. For example, click the Management Point tab, click to clear the Use this site system as a management point check box, and then click OK to remove the role.
- Log on to the computer that is running IIS by using an account that has administrative credentials.
- Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
- In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, click Add/Remove Windows Components.
- In the Windows Components Wizard dialog box, click Application Server, and then click Details.
- In the Application Server dialog box, click to clear the Internet Information Services check box, click OK, and then click Next.
- Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
- In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, click Add/Remove Windows Components.
- In the Windows Components Wizard dialog box, click Application Server, and then click Details.
- In the Application Server dialog box, click to select the Internet Information Services check box, click OK, and then click Next.
- Click Finish.
- In the SMS Administrator Console, right-click the computer where you reinstalled IIS under Site Systems, and then click Properties.
- In the Site System Properties dialog box, click the tab that corresponds to the SMS role that you want to reinstall, click the corresponding check box, and then click OK. For example, click the Management Point tab, click to select the Use this site system as a management point check box, and then click OK.
