SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006, a receive location that uses the POP3 adapter may be disabled unexpectedly when you receive a malformed message. Additionally, a warning message that resembles the following may be logged in the Application log in Event Viewer: Event Type: Warning

The adapter "POP3" raised an error message. Details "The POP3 adapter received an invalid response from the server.

Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, manually delete the malformed message from the POP3 mailbox.MORE INFORMATIONBefore you apply the hotfix that is described in this article, the POP3 adapter will retry processing the malformed message until the POP3 adapter reaches the error threshold. After the error threshold is reached, the POP3 adapter is disabled. Therefore, valid messages in the mailbox are not processed as expected.
After you install this hotfix, the malformed message is suspended, and the POP3 adapter processes subsequent messages as expected.REFERENCES
