This article contains information about how Groove Virtual Office domain clients and Groove Workspace domain clients schedule the retrieval of policy updates from the Groove Management Server.

Managed installations of Groove Virtual Office 3.x and Groove Workspace 2.x periodically contact the Groove Management Server to request policy updates.

In Groove 2.1 and 2.0, each client contacts the Management Server when the client comes online. Each client then contacts the server every 30 minutes thereafter. This communication causes too much traffic for some large Groove domains. In order to reduce the volume of traffic between the client and the server, Groove 2.5 has an automatic polling interval of five hours. The starting time of the five hour polling interval is staggered among the clients in a domain.

After you log on to Groove and you are online, you may not receive new policies for five hours.
To force an immediate connection between the client and the Management Server in Groove,
  • On the Help menu, click About Groove, click Licenses, and then click Update.
Groove connects to the Management Server to retrieve the license information. At the same time, Groove also downloads any changes to the domain policies.
