INTRODUCTION

This article discusses how to create standardized workstation images when Groove is pre-installed.

MORE INFORMATION

In many enterprise environments, administrators use a disk imaging utility, such as Symantec Ghost, to create standardized workstation and laptop configurations.

If you do this when Groove is installed by using a default installation, problems with Groove are caused. However, by taking some precautions, you can easily create a master image that includes Groove.

The first time that Groove is started, Groove creates a Device URL that is intended to be unique to that computer. If you start Groove before you create the image, all the computers that are built from the image have the same Device URL. This situation makes Groove communications unreliable. To prevent this situation, follow these steps:
  1. When you install Groove, do not enable the option to add Groove to the startup menu.
  2. On the final page of the installation wizard, click to clear the Launch Groove check box.
  3. After Groove is installed, make sure that Groove is not started before you create the image.
After the image is copied to a target computer or device, a user on that computer or device should start Groove and then create an account.
