SYMPTOMSWhen you remove the battery from a Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0-based device immediately after you change settings, the new settings are not saved.CAUSEIn Windows Mobile versions that are earlier than Windows Mobile 5.0, devices could lose device settings when the battery was drained. Windows Mobile 5.0 contains a new persistent memory storage feature. In Windows Mobile 5.0, certain information that is stored in the registry is saved to memory when the device is turned off or suspended. However, if you remove the battery immediately after you change settings, the device has insufficient time to save the new settings.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, use the method that applies to the Windows Mobile 5.0-based device. Smartphone devicesAlways use the power button to turn off a Smartphone device. After the Smartphone device has powered down, wait several seconds before you remove the battery. When you do this, the Smartphone device has sufficient time to save the new settings. Pocket PC devicesAlways use the power button to suspend a Pocket PC device. After you suspend the Pocket PC device, wait several seconds before you remove the battery. When you do this, the Pocket PC device has sufficient time to save the new settings.
