Error message when you use Access 2003 to open a database file: "Error 1706. No valid source could be found" (921024)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Office Access 2003 to open a database file, you may receive the following error message:

Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product [DAO].

For example, you may receive this error message when you open the Northwind.mdb file.

Note This problem occurs on computers that are running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, reinstall Office 2003.
