INTRODUCTION

This article describes what occurs when you import a Microsoft Project file into a Groove Project Manager tool or a Task Manager tool that already contains data.

MORE INFORMATION

The Project Manager tool is part of Groove Workspace 2.x. The Task Manager tool is part of Groove Virtual Office 3.x.

The Project Manager tool and the Task Manager tool are intended to manage a single top-level project per instance of the tool. Therefore, when you import a Microsoft Project file into a Project Manager tool or a Task Manager tool which already contains data, the following things occur:
  • The top-level task is overwritten by the project from the Microsoft Project file.
  • The tasks from the Microsoft Project file are added, and the pre-existing tasks are untouched.
When you start the import process, contacts and resources are dealt with in one of three ways, depending on your response to the reconciliation query that Groove displays. These three ways are as follows:
  • Project Manager or Task Manager ignores Microsoft Project resource names. Additionally, all tasks are imported as unassigned.
  • Project Manager or Task Manager reconciles Groove project contacts with Microsoft Project resource names. When there is no Groove match for a Microsoft Project resource, the tool does not create a new contact. This process leaves the corresponding tasks unassigned.
  • Project Manager or Task Manager reconciles Groove project contacts with Microsoft Project resource names. When there is no Groove match for a Microsoft Project resource, the tool creates a new e-mail contact in Groove. The tool then assigns the corresponding tasks to the e-mail contact.

Note This option is available only in a Groove Workspace Advanced Project toolset or in a Groove Virtual Office Task and Meeting Management toolset.
