FIX: Dimension processing may fail, and you may receive an error message in SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services (914595)

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services, dimension processing may fail, and you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
Memory error: The operation cannot be completed because the memory quota estimate (XXX MB) exceeds the available system memory (XXX MB).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services incorrectly estimates the memory quota for a dimension that contains lots of levels and leaf members.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information
