Error message when you install Business Contact Manager: "Error 1406 Could not write value to key \SOFTWARE" (913559)

During or at the end of the installation process, you may receive the following error message or a similar error message: Error 1406 Could not write value to key \SOFTWARE. Verify that you have sufficient
access to that key, or contact your support personnel. CAUSEThis issue may occur if you do not have sufficient permissions to modify sections of the registry. These permissions are required to install Business Contact Manager. This issue occurs when the permission for the Everyone group of the \SOFTWARE registry subkey is not set to Full Control. WORKAROUNDWarning This workaround may make your computer or your network more vulnerable to attack by malicious users or by malicious software such as viruses. We do not recommend this workaround but are providing this information so that you can implement this workaround at your own discretion. Use this workaround at your own risk. Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Modify the registry at your own risk.To work around this issue, follow these steps: - Click Start, click Run, type control userpasswords, and then click OK.
- Create a new computer administrator account.
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

In Registry Editor, right-click HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software, and then click Permissions.
- Click Add, type Everyone, and then click OK.
- Under Group or user names, click Everyone.
- Under Permissions, click to select Full Control in the Allow column, and then click OK.
- Locate the following subkeys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Setup - For each subkey, follow these steps:
- Click the subkey.
- Delete the InstanceComponentSet.# string value in the right panel.
Notice that # is a number, and the value of this key is {66563AD8-637B-407F-BCA7-0233A16891AB}.
- Unregister and then reregister the Microsoft Windows Installer service.
To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type msiexec /unregister, and then click OK.
- Click Start, click Run, type msiexec /regserver, and then click OK.
- Insert the Business Contact Manager installation CD, and then follow the prompts to install Business Contact Manager.
