The Office 2003 Web Components are not updated as expected when you install Office 2003 Service Pack 2 (912427)

SYMPTOMS

When you update your installation of Microsoft Office 2003 by using Office Update, Microsoft Update, or Automatic Updates, you expect the Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components to be updated by Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2). The Office 2003 SP2 update is completed successfully and you do not receive an error message. However, when you examine the version of the Office 2003 Web Components that are installed on your computer, you determine that the Office 2003 Web Components have not been updated.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if you have downloaded and installed the Office 2003 Web Components version 2 from the Microsoft Download Center.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download and install the Office 2003 Web Components version 3 from the Microsoft Download Center. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

To determine the version of the Office 2003 Web Components that are installed on your computer, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. In the Currently installed programs list, click Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components.
  3. Click Click here for support information.
  4. In the Support Info dialog box, determine the version of the Office 2003 Web Components that are currently installed.
