An IntelliMouse Trackball Explorer device that is connected to a USB port on a Windows 2000-based computer is not detected correctly (912081)

SYMPTOMSWhen you connect a Microsoft IntelliMouse Trackball Explorer device to a USB port on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, you may notice the following symptoms: - Windows 2000 does not correctly detect the IntelliMouse Trackball Explorer device.
- The IntelliMouse Trackball Explorer device appears in the Device Manager with a black exclamation point (!) on a yellow field.
Additionally, when you try to update the IntelliMouse Trackball Explorer device, you may receive the following error message: An error occurred during the installation of the device. The driver selected for
the device is not compatible with Windows 2000. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this behavior, follow these steps: - In Device Manager, expand Human Interface Devices, and then double-click the IntelliMouse Trackball Explorer device that is listed.
- In the properties dialog box for the IntelliMouse Trackball Explorer device, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.

In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Next.
- Click Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver, and then click Next.
- In the Models list, click USB Human Interface Device, and then click Next.

After the driver is installed, click Finish.
- Restart the computer.
You can see that the IntelliMouse Trackball Explorer device is now functioning correctly.
