RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use one or more of the following methods in the order in which they appear.
Method 1: Reset the default game settings
To reset the default game settings, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to All Programs, and then point to Microsoft Games.
- Point to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, point to Troubleshooting, and then click Reset Defaults.
If you still experience the issue that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section, go to method 2
Method 2: Re-create the Flight Simulator 2004 configuration file
To re-create the Flight Simulator 2004 configuration file, follow these steps:
- Open Windows Explorer.
- In the left pane, locate and then click the following folder:
Drive:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9
Note In this folder path, Drive represents the hard disk partition on which the operating system files are installed. Additionally, Username represents the name of the user account.
If you cannot locate the FS9 folder, follow these steps to view the hidden files and folders:- On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
- In the Folder Options dialog box, click the View tab.
- Click to select the Show hidden files and folders check box.
- Click to clear the Hide protected operating system files check box.
- Click to clear the Hide file extensions for known file types check box.
- Click OK.
- In the right pane, right-click FS9.cfg, and then click Rename.
- Type FS9.bak, and then press ENTER.
- On the File menu, click Close.
- Start Flight Simulator 2004 - A Century of Flight.
If you still experience the issue that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section, go to method 3.
Method 3: Install the latest video card drivers
Video card drivers are software programs that tell Microsoft Windows how the video card functions. When you have configuration problems with a game and with the game display, update the video card drivers to the most recent version. To update the video card drivers, follow these steps:
- Identify the name and the manufacturer of the video card. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag, and then click OK.
- Click the Display tab. Under Device, look for the name and the manufacturer of the video card.
- Click Exit.
- Determine whether applicable driver updates are available. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:Click Play to view this streaming media demonstration.
If you cannot install the latest drivers, or if you need help with the installation, contact the manufacturer of your video card to obtain and install the latest drivers.
