SSIS reports that a query was successful when a SQLOLEDB provider ends an SSIS query because of a server error (910890)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Workgroup

SYMPTOMS

When a Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server (SQLOLEDB) provider ends a Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) query because of a server error, SSIS does not report the error on the server side. Instead, SSIS reports that the query reached the end of the rowset and that the query was successful.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the following behavior occurs:
  • The SQLOLEDB provider encounters an error on the server side.
  • The SQLOLEDB provider ends the SSIS query but does not return the error. Instead, the SQLOLEDB provider returns an end of rowset.
  • When SSIS encounters the end of rowset, SSIS does not report that the query was ended and that the complete data set was not processed. Instead, SSIS reports that the query was completed and that the query was successful.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the SQL Native Client to connect to SQL Server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2005.
