SYMPTOMS

Automatic checkpoints on some SQL Server 2000 databases do not run as expected. The automatic checkpoints previously ran as expected. Other SQL Server 2000 databases have no issues.

You may also notice the following symptoms:
  • The transaction log for the affected databases grows to fill up all available disk space.
  • The affected databases use simple recovery.
  • You may receive one or more of the following error messages:
    2005-08-01 20:32:18.26 spid224 Error: 9002, Severity: 17, State: 6
2005-08-01 20:32:18.26 spid224 The log file for database Database Name is full. Back up the transaction log for the database to free up some log space.
2005-08-01 20:44:12.23 spid7 Could not write a CHECKPOINT record in database Database Name because the log is out of space.
2005-08-01 20:44:12.25 spid7 Automatic checkpointing is disabled in database Database Name because the log is out of space. It will continue when the database owner successfully checkpoints the database. Free up some space or extend the database and then run the CHECKPOINT statement.
