INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to install Sybari Enterprise Manager.

MORE INFORMATION

Before you install Sybari Enterprise Manager, review the following information:
  • You can use Sybari Enterprise Manager to manage only Sybari Antigen 8.0.
  • You can use the Sybari Enterprise Manager Setup wizard to install Sybari Enterprise Manager on a local Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based server or on a local Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based server.
  • You cannot install Sybari Enterprise Manager on a server that is used as a domain controller.
  • You can install Sybari Enterprise Manager directly on a Windows 2000-based or on a Windows Server 2003-based server. However, you will be prompted to select the type of database that you want to use together with Sybari Enterprise Manager. You can use either the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE) or an existing SQL Server database.
  • You can install multiple instances of Sybari Enterprise Manager. For example, you can install an instance of Sybari Enterprise Manager for every region on dedicated management servers. When you do this, local administrators can manage their own servers. However, each regional instance of Sybari Enterprise Manager will have to deploy the Sybari Enterprise Manager agent to the servers that this instance of Sybari Enterprise Manager will control.
Before you install Sybari Enterprise Manager, make sure that you know the name of the Administrator account and the password for the server on which you are installing Sybari Enterprise Manager. Additionally, you must have the Windows 2000 installation CD if you are installing Sybari Enterprise Manager on a Windows 2000-based server. The Setup wizard may prompt you for the Windows 2000 installation CD when Setup is installing the Windows Server components.

How to install Sybari Enterprise Manager by using MSDE

To install Sybari Enterprise Manager by using MSDE, follow these steps:
  1. Run Setup.exe from the folder that contains the Sybari Enterprise Manager installation files.
  2. Click Yes if you want the Sybari Enterprise Manager Setup wizard to install the required system components. Alternatively, click No if you want to manually install these components.

Note Sybari Enterprise Manager requires Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). For security reasons, you must make sure that the most recent software updates for IIS are installed.

If you are installing Sybari Enterprise Manager on a Windows 2000-based server, you may be prompted to restart the server after the required system components are installed. If you restart the server, you must run Setup.exe again to continue the installation after you log on to the server.
  3. Click MS SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE).
  4. Click I Accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Next.
  5. Enter the user information, and then click Next.
  6. Enter the installation destination folder, and then click Next.
  7. Click Install, and then click Finish after the installation is finished.

How to install Sybari Enterprise Manager by using an existing server that is running SQL Server

  1. Run Setup.exe from the folder that contains the Sybari Enterprise Manager installation files.
  2. Click Yes if you want the Sybari Enterprise Manager Setup wizard to install the required system components. Alternatively, click No if you want to manually install these components.

Note Sybari Enterprise Manager requires IIS.

  3. Click Existing SQL Server.

Note Before you continue, make sure that a database has been created for SybariEnterpriseManager and for SybariEnterpriseManagerReports. Make sure that the user who you designate in the Sybari Enterprise Manager installation has access to the SybariEnterpriseManager database and to the SybariEnterpriseManagerReports database. Also make sure that this user has the db_owner permission. If the user is the database owner, these rights are automatically granted.
  4. Click I Accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Next.
  5. In the Authentication Type section, click either Windows integrated security or SQL Authentication.

If you are not sure what type of authentication is used, ask the administrator of the remote server that is running SQL Server. If you select the wrong authentication type, the Sybari Enterprise Manager user will not be able to log on after you install Sybari Enterprise Manager.

Note If you are using Windows integrated security with a remote server, the server that is running Sybari Enterprise Manager requires credentials that can be accessed by Sybari Enterprise Manager and by the remote server that is running SQL Server. Windows integrated security is only supported when you are using Sybari Enterprise Manager and SQL Server in a domain or in an Active Directory environment.
  6. In the Server box, click the local server or the remote server that is running SQL Server. This is the server on which you are installing Sybari Enterprise Manager. The Server box lists all the servers that are running SQL Server that can be discovered in the Sybari Enterprise Manager client environment. You do not have to select a server in this list. You can manually type a server name.
  7. In the Domain section, type the domain name in which the server that is running SQL Server and Sybari Enterprise Manager is located.

Note Type a domain name only if you selected Windows integrated security in the Authentication type section.

Do not type anything in the Domain box if either of the following conditions is true:
    • You selected SQL authentication in the Authentication type section.
    • You are using a local server that is running SQL Server. This server uses Windows integrated security and has a local account.
  8. In the User box, type the name of the user who has access to the SQL database.
  9. In the Password box, type the user's password.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Enter the installation destination folder, and then click Next.
  12. Click Test logon to make sure that the user can log on.
  13. Enter the target databases. These databases are the databases that were created by the SQL Administrator before you installed Sybari Enterprise Manager. See step 3 for more information.

Note If you are using SQL authentication, you can use the drop-down list to select the target database. You cannot use the drop-down list if you are using Windows integrated security.
  14. Click Check Database for each database to confirm database access on the remote server.
  15. Click Install, and then click Finish.
