You may receive an "Internet connection failure" error message when you try to download the EPG listings in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (905945)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to download the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) channel listings for Live TV in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, you may receive the following error message:
Download Incomplete

Guide listings could not be retrieved. Internet connection failure

Details: Unknown discovery service error. Code: 14

Would you like Media Center to try again?

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the system time or system date on the computer is incorrect.

Note In this scenario, the error message is incorrect. There is no Internet connection failure. The error message does not correctly describe the cause of the problem.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, set the system clock to the correct time:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type timedate.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. In the Date and Time Properties dialog box, set the system date and time to the correct values, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
