You receive an "UNSUPPORTED FILE TYPE" error message when you try to create a video DVD in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (905942)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

SYMPTOMS

When you try to create a video DVD in Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, you may receive the following error message:
UNSUPPORTED FILE TYPE

One or more of the files you have selected is not a supported file type and cannot be added to the list.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
  • You try to create a video DVD by using a recorded TV show.
  • The TV show was broadcast in a region that does not match the region that you have selected in Media Center.
For example, if you select the United States as your region, your broadcast type is NTSC. If the TV show was broadcast in a region that uses another broadcast type, you cannot create a video DVD by using that TV show. For example, you cannot create a video DVD if the broadcast type is PAL, DVB-T, or SECAM.

In Media Center, you can only create a video DVD by using a recorded TV show when the broadcast type matches the region that you have selected in Media Center.
