A scheduled recording may fail when you schedule the recording to occur when daylight saving time reverts to standard time in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (905927)

SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, when you schedule a recording to occur when daylight saving time reverts to standard time, the scheduled recording may fail.

Note The problem does not occur if you schedule a recording to occur when standard time switches to daylight saving time.

For most of the United States, daylight saving time starts at 2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in April. Daylight saving time reverts to standard time at 2:00 A.M. on the last Sunday in October.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem and schedule a recording when daylight saving time reverts to standard time, follow these steps:
  1. On the Saturday before the time change, temporarily set the system date back one day. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type timedate.cpl, and then click OK.
    2. In the Date and Time Properties dialog box, set the system date back one day, and then click OK. For example, if the date is currently Saturday, October 29, 2005, change the date to Friday, October 28, 2005.
  2. Schedule a manual recording to record your TV show. To do this, specify the channel and time in Media Center:
    1. Select My TV.
    2. Select Recorded TV.
    3. Select Add Recording.
    4. Select Channel and Time.
    5. In the Channel field, type the channel number.
    6. In the Frequency field, select Record Once.
    7. In the Date field, select the date. For example, select one of the following:
      • If the TV show is scheduled to start before midnight on Saturday, October 29, select Fri, Oct 28.
      • If the TV show is scheduled to start after midnight on Sunday morning, October 30, select Sat, Oct 29.
    8. In the Start time field, set the start time.
    9. In the Stop time field, set the stop time.
    10. Set any other settings, such as recording quality or storage options, and then select Record.
    Important On the Sunday after the time change, remember to set the system date back to the correct date. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type timedate.cpl, and then click OK.
    2. In the Date and Time Properties dialog box, set the system date back to the correct date, and then click OK.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
