Media Center Extender does not work after you uninstall Update Rollup 2 for Windows Media Center Edition 2005 (905926)

SYMPTOMS

If you uninstall Update Rollup 2 for Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition 2005 from a computer that is connected to Media Center Extender for Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
The Extender cannot connect to the media center pc. Make sure the pc is turned on and connected to your home network.

If you want to affiliate the extender with a different pc run the setup program again. You will be asked for the following setup key.

After you uninstall Update Rollup 2, you find that Media Center Extender services will not start. Therefore, Media Center Extender does not work.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Media Center Extender service is unregistered when Update Rollup 2 is uninstalled.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, run the Media Center Extender Setup program again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
