The installation process may fail when you try to install SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4 (905262)

SYMPTOMSWhen you try to install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4), the installation process may fail, and the following message may be written
to the Replsys.out file: Login failed for user
'User'. Reason: Server is in single user mode. Only one administrator
can connect at this time.CAUSEThis problem occurs because another application, such as BMC
Patrol, is trying to connect to the instance of SQL Server 2000 while you are
installing SQL Server 2000 SP4.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, stop the services that
try to connect to the instance of SQL Server 2000 before you install SQL Server
2000 SP4. If you cannot confirm which service you must stop, stop all services except the following. Note Not all these services may exist on the computer. - Alerter
- Cluster
- Computer Browser
- Event Log
- License Logging
- Logical Disk Manager
- Messenger
- Net Logon
- NTLM Security Support Provider
- Plug and Play
- Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator
- Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
- Server
- Print Spooler
- TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
- Windows Time
- Workstation
Note To restart
the services that you stopped, restart the computer after the installation process has completed. STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
in the "Applies to" section.
