The inventory cycle may not be initiated after the Software Update Inventory Scan Tool is run with the /kick switch (expedited) in Systems Management Server 2003 (905050)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
SYMPTOMSWhen the Software Update Inventory Scan Tool (Scanwrapper.exe) is run with the /kick switch (expedited) on a Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 client computer, the inventory cycle may not be initiated. Additionally, the Software Update Inventory Scan Tool does not report that a scan was executed.
However, if you run the Software Update Inventory Scan Tool with the /kickswitch, the inventory cycle is initiated only when there has been an explicit change in the Patch State. Tool inventory scans for regular hardware inventory cycles are still completed at their regularly scheduled time.CAUSEThe Software Update Inventory Scan Tool may not correctly initiate the inventory cycle if the software update status of the SMS client has not changed.STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
