FIX: The WinHttpSendRequest function call may not be returned when you use Windows HTTP Services 5.1 to send asynchronous HTTP requests in Windows 2000 (904842)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01
  • Microsoft Windows HTTP Services (WinHTTP) 5.1, when used with:
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Windows HTTP Services (WinHTTP) 5.1 in Microsoft Windows Server 2000 to send asynchronous HTTP requests, the WinHttpSendRequest function call may not be returned. This problem may occur if the underlying asynchronous select socket that Windows HTTP Services uses experiences an error.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of an error-handling problem in the internal implementation of the Windows HTTP Services 5.1 library. The Windows HTTP Services 5.1 library may not correctly handle socket errors that occur in the asynchronous socket. This problem may prevent Windows HTTP Services from sending new requests after a socket error has occurred.
