BUG: You may not be able to delete a custom category in the Contacts application in Windows Mobile 5.0 software for Pocket PCs (904670)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 software for Pocket PCs

SYMPTOMS

In the Contacts application on a device that is running Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 software for Pocket PCs, you may not be able to delete a custom category after you create the category. The custom category remains in the category picker. However, the custom category does not appear in the list of filters if you have insufficient categories to see the "More" option in the list of filters.

You may experience this problem when the following conditions are true:
  • You do not have a contact assigned to the custom category.
  • You try to resynchronize the device.
Note When you delete the contact in All Contacts view, you do not experience this problem. The custom category is immediately removed from the category picker.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. In the Contacts application, create a contact, and then create a category.
  2. In the unfiltered list of contacts, open the summary card for the contact that you created in step 1. View and then delete the summary card.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. In the Contacts application, create a contact in a custom category.
  2. Save the contact, and then filter the contacts on that category name.
  3. Delete the contact that you created in step 1.
  4. Quit the Contacts application.
  5. In the Contacts application, open a new contact edit card, and then open the category picker. The category that has no contacts appears in the list.
