The path name wraps to a new line, and the file name is truncated when you run the Visual SourceSafe SS.exe Status command (903899)

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

You run the Microsoft Visual SourceSafe SS.exe Status command.
The output file that is created from the command contains path names and file names that are long. For example, the path name and the file name are more than 19 characters.

In this scenario, you may experience the following issues:

The path name wraps to a new line.
The file name is truncated.

CAUSE

These issues occur because the output file is structured by the column length. When the column length is exceeded, you experience these issues.

Note By default, the Status command puts the user name at column position 20 and the remaining check-out status information at column position 34.

RESOLUTION

To resolve these issues, set the command-line tab stops by adding an initializing variable that is similar to the following in the SS.ini file or in the Srcsafe.ini file:

Columns (CL) = 51,65

In this example, when the first tab stop is set at column position 51, file names up to 50 characters are correctly displayed in the output file. The total line size limit is 512 bytes.

Note After you set the initializing variable, formatting is also affected in the following areas:

Formatting is affected when you perform the SS Dir directory command together with the -E command-line option.
File name truncation is affected when you perform the SS History command.
