SYMPTOMSWindows Update or Microsoft Update offer updates for products that are not
installed on the computer. CAUSEThis issue occurs if Windows Update or Microsoft Update detect system files that are on the computer and that may have to be updated. Windows Update and Microsoft Update offer updates only when
applicability conditions are met on the local computer. However,
an uninstalled program might have left dependent system files on the computer. Therefore, Windows Update or Microsoft Update detect system files that are on the computer and that may have to be updated. This behavior occurs even though the program is not installed.

Windows Update and Microsoft Update offer updates for programs that are not installedTo work around this issue, install the update. Then, hide
the update so that the update is not displayed again. To hide an update, follow these
steps:
- Click Start, point to All
Programs, and then click either Windows Update or
Microsoft Update.
- Click Custom.
- Click to clear the check box that is next to the update that you want to hide.
- Expand the update that you want to hide, and then click to clear the Don't show this update again check box.
- Click Review and install updates.
