Windows Messenger displays all your contacts and lets you know who is already signed in.

Start chatting

You can use the Windows Messenger chat function to exchange casual messages with contacts. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Send an Instant Message.

  2. Select a recipient from the list of contacts, and then click OK.

  3. Type a message, and then click Send.

  4. The message appears instantly on the contact's screen.

    You can also see the Conversation window on the taskbar. The contact can answer the message immediately.
