SYMPTOMS

If you installed a version of Microsoft Windows Installer that was released after Windows Installer 2.0, the Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 Fax Server installation may stop responding.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Msfaxsrv.msi file is not compatible with versions of Windows Installer that were released after Windows Installer 2.0.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, install Small Business Server 2000 Fax Server before you install a version of Windows Installer that was released after Windows Installer 2.0.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem does not occur if you are using a version of Windows Installer that was released before Windows Installer 3.0.
