The latest version of the document does not appear in Internet Explorer when you open a Word 2002 document, an Excel 2002 workbook, or a PowerPoint 2002 presentation in a document library in Windows SharePoint Services (899712)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003
- Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, when used with:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
SYMPTOMSConsider the following scenario. The document versioning feature is enabled for a document library in a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Web site. You connect to the document library, and then you do one or more of the following: - You open a Microsoft Word 2002 document in the document library.
- You open a Microsoft Excel 2002 workbook in the document library.
- You open a Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 presentation in the document library.
However, the latest version of the document does not appear in Microsoft Internet Explorer. Instead, an earlier version of the document appears in Internet Explorer. To view the latest version of a document, you may have to quit, and then restart Internet Explorer. CAUSEThis issue occurs if you use a Microsoft Office XP program such as Word 2002, Excel 2002, or PowerPoint 2002. When you use Word 2002, Excel 2002, or PowerPoint 2002 to work with documents in a document library that has the document versioning feature enabled, the Office XP program uses the cache settings in Internet Explorer. Therefore, Internet Explorer may display the cached version of the document instead of the latest version of the document in the document library.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, configure the cache settings in Internet Explorer to use the Every visit to the page option. By default, the cache settings in Internet Explorer are set to use the Automatically setting. When you configure the Every visit to the page option, Internet Explorer checks for the latest versions of a stored Web page every time that you visit the Web page. The Every visit to the page setting works as follows. When you visit a Web page that you previously viewed, Internet Explorer checks to see whether the Web page has changed since the last time that you viewed it. If the Web page has changed, Internet Explorer displays the newer version of the Web page and stores the newer version of the Web page in the Temporary Internet Files folder. To configure Internet Explorer to use the Every visit to the page setting, follow these steps: - Start Internet Explorer.
- Click Internet Options on the Tools menu, and then click the General tab.
- Under Temporary Internet files, click Settings.
- Click Every visit to the page under Check for newer versions of stored pages, and then click OK two times.
- Quit, and then restart Internet Explorer.
