The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Business Solutions CRM Sales for Outlook, when used with:
    • Microsoft CRM 1.2
  • Microsoft CRM 1.2

SYMPTOMS

You cannot read the file name of an e-mail attachment that was sent from Microsoft Business Solutions CRM Sales for Outlook (the Outlook client) if the attachment's file name contains Cyrillic characters.

This behavior occurs even after you install Microsoft CRM hotfix 895393. Hotfix 895393 is documented in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

895393 The file name of an attachment is unrecognizable after you send an e-mail message by using Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

This issue affects all non-Western code pages and Western code pages where characters in the extended ASCII character set are used. No versions of Microsoft Outlook earlier than Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 can handle file attachments that have file names that use characters beyond character 255. Microsoft Outlook will return a question mark character for all extended Unicode characters. If an attachment's file name contains Cyrillic characters, the characters are converted to underscores. Therefore, the characters are unreadable in Outlook and in Microsoft CRM.
