Management point installation is not successful after you upgrade a Systems Management Server (SMS) 2.0 site server to SMS 2003 (899362)

After you upgrade the SMS 2.0 site server to SMS 2003, you experience the following symptoms: CAUSEThis problem may occur if you use version 2.0.1520.5001 of the Aclreset.exe tool before you upgrade to SMS 2003. Version 2.0.1520.5001 of the Aclreset.exe tool is included in the SMS 2.0 Recovery Tools. The problem occurs because the SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_ SiteCode group does not have the correct permissions for the following registry subkey on the SMS site server: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS For more information about the SMS 2.0 Recovery Tools, visit the following Microsoft Web site: WORKAROUNDWarning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk. To work around this problem, manually grant the SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_ SiteCode group Read permissions for the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS To do this, follow these steps: - On the SMS site server, click Start, click Run, type regedt32, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS - On the Security menu, click Permissions, and then click Add.
- In the Look in list, click the name of the SMS site server computer.
- Click the SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_SiteCode group, click Add, and then click OK.
- In the Permissions list, click to select the Allow check box for Read permission, and then click OK.
After you grant permissions to the SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_ SiteCode group, management point installation will succeed. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
