Multiple unknown channels are visible in the Program Guide after you run AutoScan in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (897087)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
SYMPTOMSAfter you run AutoScan to scan TV channels on a Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005-based computer, many
unknown channels are shown in the Program Guide. Some of these channels display
snow or static images. However, Teletext information may appear
correctly. CAUSEThis issue occurs because when Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 scans for TV channels, Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
verifies a table of expected frequencies in the region. Sometimes, Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
may detect the bleeding of the signal into the neighboring frequencies. If the
bleeding to surrounding frequencies is strong enough, the Program Guide may
show this kind of bleeding as unknown channels.RESOLUTIONYou can resolve this issue by editing the channel line-up to
remove the unknown channels from the guide. To edit the channel line-up to
remove the unknown channels from the guide,
follow these steps:
- Press the green Start button on the remote to open the
Windows XP Media Center Start page.
- Highlight and press the OK button
on the remote for the following items:
- Select Settings, and then select
TV
- Select Guide, and then select
Edit Channels
- Remove the checkmarks from the unknown channels.
- Select Save
