You may receive the "File is read only unable to save game" error message when you try to save your current game in Zoo Tycoon 2 (896928)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to save your current game in Microsoft Zoo Tycoon 2, you may receive the following error message:

File is read only unable to save game

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the Saved folder in Zoo Tycoon 2 is missing. Typically, the Saved folder is located in the following folder:

C:\documents and settings\username\application data\Microsoft games\zoo tycoon 2\default profile\saved

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, create a new folder in the Zoo Tycoon 2 folder. Name the new folder Saved. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Quit all the programs that are running.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type "%appdata%\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2\Default Profile", and then click OK.
  3. In Microsoft Windows Explorer, click File, point to New, and then click Folder.
  4. Type the name Saved.
  5. Quit Windows Explorer.
