Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • You cannot add more than 100 Web site groups to a Web site in Windows SharePoint Services

You add 100 Web site groups to a Web site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. If you try to add another Web site group, you receive the following error message:
The Web site group cannot be created due to quota limitations. The maximum number of Web site groups for this Web site has been reached. Please remove a Web site group before adding another
This hotfix package increases the number of Web site groups that you can add to a particular Web site to 250.
  • Windows SharePoint Services resolves an incorrect user to a fully qualified SMTP address when you add a user to a site collection

When you add a user to a site collection in Windows SharePoint Services by specifying that user's e-mail alias, Windows SharePoint Services resolves this entry to an incorrect user.

This problem occurs if all the following conditions are true:
    • Windows SharePoint Services is installed in a particular domain. For example, Windows SharePoint Services is installed in a domain that is named example.com.
    • A user who has a particular e-mail alias exists in the domain in which Windows SharePoint Services is installed. For example, the following sample user exists:
      User nameAliasSMTP address
      John Smithjsmithjsmith@example.com
    • A user who has the same alias exists in a different domain. For example, the following user exists:
      User nameAliasSMTP address
      Jeff Smithjsmithjsmith@tailspintoys.com
    • You add the user from the tailspintoys.com domain to the site collection in Windows SharePoint Services.
In this scenario, Windows SharePoint Services resolves the user's alias to the matching alias from the domain where Windows SharePoint Services is installed. For example, in this scenario, Windows SharePoint Services resolves jsmith@tailspintoys.com to the following user:
    User nameAliasSMTP address
    John Smithjsmithjsmith@example.com
Note This problem also occurs if the user who you try to add is from a child domain of the domain in which Windows SharePoint Services is installed.
