FIX: You may receive an error message when you use the ASP.NET State Server service to store ASP.NET session state in the .NET Framework 1.1 (896600)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft ASP.NET State Server service to store ASP.NET session state in the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Unable to make the session state request to the session state server. Please ensure that the ASP.NET State service is started and that the client and server ports are the same. If the server is on a remote machine, please ensure that it accepts remote requests by checking the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\aspnet_state\Parameters\AllowRemoteConnection.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when a request to unlock a session is made to the state server, and the session is already unlocked. The response to the request is returned as a failure to the ASP.NET worker process. Then, the ASP.NET worker process reports the error.

Note This condition is incorrectly assumed to be an error. However, this condition may be typical when HTML frames are used.
