The Firewall service may not start in Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 after you select a certificate for a, SSL listener (896495)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004, the Firewall service may not start. This symptom occurs after you select a certificate for use with a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Web Listener. After you select a certificate, ISA 2004 tries to stamp the Security Descriptor of the certificate with permissions for the Network Service account. This symptom occurs if the following conditions are true:

You are using a third-party Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP).
The CSP does not support the use of a Security Descriptor for the certificate's associated private key.

Note The Firewall service starts correctly if you use the Microsoft CSPs.
