"Guide listings could not be retrieved" error message when you run the First Run Wizard in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (896475)

SYMPTOMS

When you run the First Run Wizard in Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, you may receive the following error message:
Download Incomplete. Guide listings could not be retrieved. Internet connection failure.
Therefore, you cannot download the Program Guide.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you have not created or configured an Internet connection on your system.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, finish running the First Run Wizard, and then configure your Internet connection.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

There is a new version of the Out Of Box Experience (OOBE) in Windows XP Media Center 2005 that enables basic system configuration when you use Media Center remotely. When you start Media Center for the first time, the new OOBE runs instead of the basic Windows Configuration Wizard. However, the new OOBE does not include the option to configure your Internet settings. Therefore, you cannot connect to the Internet and download the Program Guide.
