SYMPTOMS

When the spelling and the grammar are checked in a document in one of the programs that are listed in the "Applies to" section, the program may stop responding (hang). Additionally, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following error message. Note that in the error message, Program name is one of the programs that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
Microsoft Program name has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you do the following:
  • First you install Microsoft Office 2003 together with the Spanish proofing tools.
  • Then you install a Microsoft Office 2000 program together with the Spanish proofing tools.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, reinstall Office 2003. To do this, follow these steps.

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. Close all Office programs that are open.
  2. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. In the Currently installed programs list, click Microsoft Office 2003 or another installed Office 2003 program, and then click Change.
  4. On the Maintenance Mode Options page, click Reinstall or Repair, and then click Next.
  5. On the Reinstall or Repair Office page, click Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation.
  6. Click to select the Restore my Start Menu Shortcuts check box, and then click Install.
  7. If you are prompted to restart your computer to finish the installation, click Yes.

The Office Error Reporting dialog box appears when an error occurs that causes a fatal event in the program. The dialog box includes a button to send the information about the fatal event to Microsoft. Microsoft gathers information about these types of events in a database to try to identify the cause.
