The Outlook 2002 Connector for IBM Lotus Domino saves passwords when you use it in Outlook 2002 and in Outlook 2003 (896093)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Outlook 2002 Connector for IBM Lotus Domino 2.0, the Remember password check box is available when a user logs on to a Domino server. If the user selects this check box, they can save their password and logon credentials locally. This issue occurs even if there is a policy to disabled password caching.

How to obtain the hotfix

This issue is fixed in the Outlook 2002 Hotfix Package that was released on March 4, 2005. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

After you install this hotfix, follow the steps that are listed in the "More Information" section of this article to set the EnableRememberPwd registry key and to activate the hotfix.

To activate this hotfix, follow these steps:
  1. Quit Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then click to select the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software\Microsoft\Outlook Connector for Domino

  4. After you select the key that is specified in step 3, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD Value.
  5. Type EnableRememberPwd, and then press ENTER.
  6. Right-click EnableRememberPwd, and then click Modify.
  7. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
  8. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
Additionally, you can set the following registry subkey by using local policy settings to activate this hotfix:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Outlook Connector for Domino\EnableRememberPwd

The following values are available for the EnableRememberPwd registry key:
  • Value 0: In this value, the Remember password check box is hidden, and the passwords are not remembered. Additionally, existing passwords are removed from the local cache.
  • Value 1: In this value, the Remember password check box is visible and is usable.
By default, the value for the EnableRememberPwd registry key is set to 1.
