You receive a "The binding handle is invalid" error message if you try to programmatically delete cached Web content from a remote member of an ISA Server 2000 array (896083)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000

SYMPTOMS

If you try to programmatically delete information from the Web proxy cache of a computer that is running Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000, you receive the following error message:
The binding handle is invalid.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You use a program that calls the FetchUrl method.

Note The DeleteURL.vbs script that is included with the ISA Server 2000 Software Development Kit (SDK) uses the FetchUrl method.
  • You try to delete the cached Web content from a remote member of an ISA Server 2000 Enterprise Edition array.
This problem occurs because when you run this program from a remote computer, ISA Server does not pass the correct parameters to the RPC Endpoint Mapper. Therefore, the RPC Endpoint Mapper cannot determine the correct ISA Server array member with which to establish a connection. If you run the program locally on the ISA Server array member, you can delete the cached Web content successfully.
