The Media Center Extender may not work after you configure a firewall in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (896036)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
SYMPTOMS
When you install the Media Center Extender for Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, and then you configure a firewall on your system, the Extender may not work.
CAUSE
This issue may occur because the firewall may close ports that must be open for the Extender to work.
Note Typically, this issue does not occur if the firewall is configured before you set up the Extender. In that scenario, the Extender Setup program detects the firewall and helps you configure it.
However, some firewalls must be configured before you set up the Extender. RESOLUTION
If you configure a firewall after you set up the Extender, you must manually configure the firewall to open the following ports.
|
1900 | UDP | 3390 | TCP | 3932 | TCP | 5555 | TCP | 3776 | UDP | 7777 | UDP |
The procedure for manually configuring these ports is different for each firewall model and for each firewall manufacturer. For more information about how to configure your firewall, see your firewall documentation.
