The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
SYMPTOMSWhen you watch a TV show or play back video by using a Microsoft Windows Media Center Extender device that is connected to a Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005-based computer, frame drop or "choppiness" may occur. Additionally, the Network Congestion icon may appear.CAUSE
This issue may occur if proprietary speed boosting modes such as SuperA, SuperG, or Turbo are enabled on your wireless network access point. Some wireless network access points contain proprietary speed boosting technologies that are not compatible with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) protocols.
Each manufacturer of wireless networking devices uses its own chip and its own speed boosting technology. Manufacturers develop their own technology that works with their specific devices because there are no speed boosting protocols that are approved as standard. Therefore, one manufacturer's technology may not work with another manufacturer's device.RESOLUTION
To prevent this issue, disable these proprietary modes on the wireless access point. To do this, see the manufacturer's documentation.
