Sections of a recorded digital broadcast TV show are blank when played back in Windows XP Media Center 2005 (896022)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

SYMPTOMS

When you play a recording of a TV show that was recorded from a digital source by using the Terrestrial Digital Broadcasting Services (DVB-T) or the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) digital output, the recording may contain blank sections. There may be no record of a signal loss during the recording of the TV show in the Media Center event log.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the quality and strength of broadcast digital TV signal can be affected by conditions that Media Center cannot detect. These conditions include high winds, heavy rain, and damage to your antenna. When these conditions affect a digital TV signal, Media Center continues to record the TV show and does not register a signal loss.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
